There are many major civic initiatives that require the coordination of cross-functional teams involving a number of departments, agencies, and consultants. Most recently, the Manager of Special Projects has coordinated and completed several projects:

  • The $27-million development of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, which resulted in the fall 2010 opening of the Rotary Place Arena and West Orillia Sports Complex.
  • The $24-million Orillia Public Library/Market Square development project; the new library opened in the spring of 2012.
  • The $1.3 million Opera House Foundation Restoration Project, which included the repair, waterproofing, and insulation of the building foundations, and the installation of the footings and foundation for a future freight elevator.
  • The $9-million Fire Station Project, completed in fall 2014, which included the design and construction of a new 20,00 sq. ft. Orillia Fire Headquarters Station; 9-1-1 Communication Centre.

In addition to these successful projects, several other important initiatives are in progress:

  • The development of a Recreation Facility including gymnasium and aquatic facilities.
  • The construction of temporary shower and washroom facilities at the Port of Orillia.
  • The construction of a new administrative building and garage at the Waste Diversion Site.
