The Accessibility Advisory Committee is mandated by the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001, and is governed by Schedule "A" of Chapter 105 of the City of Orillia Municipal Code - Committees and Public Appointments.
The purpose of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is to provide City Council with recommendations related to the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to persons with disabilities within our community.
The Committee hosts an annual public meeting to hear public feedback and make recommendations on the creation and updates to the City of Orillia's 2023-2028 Accessibility Plan.
The Orillia Accessibility Advisory Committee held its annual public meeting on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The meeting was open to members of the public and persons with disabilities to provide feedback on conventional and specialized transportation services, parking spaces, on-demand accessible taxicabs, recreational trails, outdoor play spaces and rest areas along exterior paths of travel.
This meeting was held pursuant to Section 29(4) of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and Sections 41(2), 79(1), 80.8, 80.19, 80.29 and 80.39 of Ontario Regulation 191/11 - Integrated Accessibility Standards.
The Committee also reviewed 2024 updates to the City of Orillia 2023-2028 Accessibility Plan.
